Where There’s Smoke

March 10th, 2008

There's a lot of candles. My parents stopped by San Diego for a few days, and since Mom's birthday was recent, we (by we I mean Rebekah, you don't want to eat my cake) baked her a cake.

It was supposed to be a surprise, but the glow that starts coming from the kitchen gives it away a bit early.
Mom & Dad

It takes a lot of wind to blow out that many candles. I won't tell you how old she is, but I'm not going to stop you from counting how many candles there are.
Out of Breath

Happy belated birthday Mom, and thanks to both of them for stopping by, it was great to have you guys (even if you choose Hawaii over us for your true vacation ;) ).

I love how their faces are glowing, like they’re sitting around a campfire.

Just a safety tip, Eric. In about 20 years, the ratio of blow out power to candle power will have tipped in favor of the candles. Be sure that you do not serve the cake in a pan with a lip like this; should she pass out from asphyxiation, you want her to slide off the slide of the cake, not fall into it and suffocate.
Oh. And happy birthday Eric’s mom!

So glad she has more candles than I do! That was so thoughtful of you to do that for her. And I’d pick Hawaii over you too!

We got the placemats at Crate and Barrel on clearance (online I think), just a dollar or so a piece…granted they probably don’t have them anymore.
