Running Related
March 18th, 2008It’s been awhile since I’ve posted about running, and now you’ll get a two for one.
Last Saturday I ran the St. Patrick’s Day 10k. Last year we got a bunch of people to do it, including a few people from out of town. This year pretty much everyone backed out, including the organizer, although Natalie and Mary still ran it with me. Pretty uneventful, although since I really haven’t been running many miles per week, it definitely felt like a long ways. I improved about a minute over last years time, was really hoping for about 2-3 minutes, but that’s what happens when you don’t train.
We got these awesome medals, and of course the standard t-shirt. You really only have one day to wear these items, so I made full use of it.
You might have seen me talking about minimalist running in some of my comments on here, and I’ve been wearing my Nike Free 5.0’s (with the 4.5 inserts) on all my runs. I’ve been wanting to go barefoot, but it’s really quite dangerous (glass, debris, people staring at you). Fortunately there is a company that produces a perfect product. I would have purchased them before, but I’ve been waiting on this version for 3-4 months now.
Basically it’s a thin elasticy upper, with a thin conforming rubber sole to prevent you from damaging your foot. Took them out for just over a mile run (takes awhile to build up), and it feels almost exactly like barefoot running, just without the freezing feet at the end. There is a lot of reasoning, and write-up’s on the shoe that has already been done by people much smarterthan myself .

I don’t know what to say, it’s just wrong. What does the sole look like, is there any support?

Check out vibramfivefingers.com to see what the sole looks like. There isn’t any support at all (besides my actual foot), that’s the idea.

Aahahahaha! They look hilarious. But if I start running again, I’ll probably buy some.
