One Hundred
November 23rd, 2007Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. A time to go back home and see your family, and also see friends that are also back home visiting. We made it back Wednesday morning, and drove back to my parents place. It ended up snowing the last hour or so of our trip, which is always nice to see, especially since our current climate doesn't really allow for that (which is a good thing, but I still like snow...when I can leave it in a few days). Ended up eating lots of good food (isn't this a given?), and then heading out to Rebekah's parents house, where we got to repeat it all again (and she braved the masses of people for the "deals"). Good times.
While at my parents house I also managed to get my 100th run in. Now it's probably not exactly my 100th run, since I have gone without the Nike+ a few times, but it's close enough. In just under one year I've done 100 runs, covering nearly 420 miles, and burning up just over 70,000 calories. Insane. I had wanted to do a lot more, but I ended up taking a 4-5 month break in the middle. But it's good to be back.
This run (and today's run) were the first runs in cold weather (20-30 degrees). I ended up somehow forgetting to pack my normal long sleeve running shirt, but went out in shorts, gloves, hat, and a short-sleeve cotton shirt with a light running jacket over it. The family said I was crazy, but once outside of my hands being ready to fall off, once warmed up it was very enjoyable. It seems running in the cold is a lot easier, your body doesn't have to worry about cooling itself off all the time, plus it numbs you up so you really can't feel anything. Unfortunately it also makes it harder to want to go out and run.
Hopefully by this time tomorrow we'll be back in our tropical weather, with an extra day to relax before the work week hits us. It's a great holiday.

That’s awesome! Way to go Eric! I just started up again about a week ago as well. Before Rory was born I was kind of slacking - I forget what a better mood a quick run puts me in too.
btw - how does that Nike+iPod thing work? I looked at them, do they integrate at all with the Garmin? Does it work with the iPhone at all?

The Nike+ thing requires a few different things..ipod nano..the nike+ sport kit ($29 or less) and then nike+ shoes (but you can get around that by buying a thing to put it on your laces). Unfortunately it doesn’t work with the iphone (yet). And it doesn’t integrate with the garmin either…so it’s completely seperate..but it would work like the garmin footpod would.

Since deciding to take up running with the onset of winter, I’ve only been out once when it was freezing/snowing, but that’s pretty painful on the lungs…especially when you’re already totally out of shape.

Brad running..can you picture that? I can’t. Are you trying to corrupt his image?

You wouldn’t know it by watching me…
