Frappuccino Generation

April 24th, 2007

It seems growing up the target of much hate in the war against fat was the McDonalds Big Mac. The huge amount of calories and nearly a days supply of fat had everyone hating against it. Restaurants have continued pushing out new and larger sandwiches, breaking the 1,000 calorie mark for just that component alone, however most people don't realize the biggest addition for calories in our diets, the local coffe establishment.

Frappuccino's seem to be the worst offender, a grande (medium) with whipped cream will run you 470 calories and 21 grams of fat. Although most "speciality" drinks run in the mid 300 calories themselves.

Compare this to the Big Mac, with it's 560 calories and 30 grams of fat. Sure the burger is still worse for you but it's the main component of the meal, while a coffee is just something we usually have in addition to everything else.

Think of it this way --an addition of 300 calories to your diet each day over the course of a year can add over 20 pounds of unneeded weight, not to mention empty your wallet. The issue is that since these items are considered "hip" people don't seem to be as aware as they would be if they went to a known unhealthy place (ie most fast food).

that’s because frappuccion’s aren’t all greasy, etc so it’s easy to forget — and like you said it’s the image.

Although it can feel like you just ate a stick of butter since your mouth is all coated…granted I would also get the large’s…which put it up to nearly 700 calories.

So the point you’re trying to make is that you’re not happy with McDonalds and Burger King serving just coffee, right? You want them to serve mochas and double lattes?

    Mmm…McMocha…

    I like that - McMocha!!

In general I think it’s easy to drink lots of calories - juice, soda, smoothies, etc.
