Another Pair
February 23rd, 2008As some of you probably remember I have a minor obsession with shoes.
Today I added another pair to the stable. A pair of New Balance Track Flats (technically they are spikes, but the spikes are removable). They were cheap, and my current obsession is with low to no support shoes (Nike Free's, Vibram Five Fingers, track flats, etc). Not sure when they'll get put into the rotation, but I'm hoping I get to get a track night into my rotation to actually use the spikes. The color is also so 80's it's cool again.

Do you run long runs with these or just do sprints? If long runs, how do your feet and ankles and knees do without the support and cushion you normally find in running shoes?
I’m looking for a new pair since my sauconys are giving me knee problems. Currently I’m back in my marathon shoes (which have way too many miles on them).

I haven’t actually worn these yet..so not sure how they’ll turn out. But I have been doing all my recent (3+ months) runs in Nike Free’s which basically have no support/cushioning. At first you’ll be really sore as you use different muscles, for me it completely changed my running style. I land midfoot all the time instead of on the heel. After I got built up to them, I completely love it. I used to have a lot of leg/knee/foot pain, and would have to take joint supplements. Now I don’t take anything and I don’t have any pain at all. The running style helps me run a bit faster also. I’ll probably do a full post on it sometime, but for me it seems like it helps a lot.

if your shoe obsession gets any worse there won’t be any room “in the closet” for you.

just to clarify, i don’t have 2-3x more shoes than eric. I still have more than him, but not many more. If he ever passes me, i’ll be sure to go shoe shopping.
