May 1st, 2007If you’re a fan of Digg check out the madness over there.
It goes something like this.
1. Someone posts link to HD-DVD processing key.
2. Story becomes must dugg story.
3. MPAA issues a takedown to Digg
4. Digg obliges
5. Users get extremely upset, pull out Freedom of Speech violation card.
6. Users post hundred’s of nonsensical stories/photos to front page/comments with HD-DVD processing key.
Update: 7. Digg says they’ll fight it now (they pretty much had to)
Good times.

It basically allows the player (software or hardware) the ability to read the disk, to get into the DRM. Previously you couldn’t read it on Linux, etc. Now people can use this code to read (and let’s be hoenst, potentially pirate) the disk.
