The Big Ones

February 22nd, 2008

Rebekah doesn’t like looking at Mrs. Wildenstein every time my page loads, so apparently I need to post something new. So here it goes.

Awhile ago I found a site that documents some of the heaviest people in the world. To me it’s amazing that people can pack on in excess of 6-7 times their natural body weight, and our bodies somehow still manage to survive. Granted risk of disease, heart failure, etc all skyrocket. Here is a list of some of the heaviest people in the world. And because I can, here is a photo of #1.

Some more fun stuff. This is a 49 minute documentary that while disturbing I find fascinating. At one point this man could not lay on his back because the weight of his fat would suffocate him to death. He peaked at over half a ton.

The Case for Cosmetic Surgery

February 20th, 2008

Just kidding, there is no case. This is probably the most famous case of cosmetic surgery gone wrong, with Jocelyn Wildenstein spending over 2 million pounds (nearly 4 million USD) trying to make herself more beautiful (originally to attempt to keep her husband).

Nicknamed the Bride of Wildenstein.

Observations for February 20th, 2008

February 20th, 2008

- A TV show about losing weight, The Biggest Loser, is a two hour program. Unless you’re watching it in a gym, two hours on your rear watching other people lose weight is probably not beneficial.

- Passing someone while running, even if it means you have to wear yourself out, still makes me smile (even though it probably shouldn’t).

- Going to the dentist is a lot easier when you’ve actually taken care of your teeth (yes I still need to floss).

- Even though I’m far from normal, people like this make me feel very normal.

Balboa Blooms

February 16th, 2008

Today was once again a beautiful winter day in San Diego. Since the weather was peaking over 70 again, we decided to walk down to the incredible Balboa Park just a few blocks away from our apartment.

I had been noticing the trees in bloom as I run at night, they look much better in the day time :). I don’t know what kind of trees these are, but it’s almost like San Diego’s own cherry blossoms.
Balboa Park in Bloom

One of California’s largest tree’s also has it’s home in Balboa Park.

This Moreton Bay Fig tree is located in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Planted in 1914, it now has a girth of 42 feet, a height of 80 feet and a canopy of 145 feet. Park near the Fleet Science Museum and walk north.

It’s stunningly huge.
Big Tree

These are both stitches, however they were done in different programs, hence the black/white background difference.
