Real Rube Goldberg

I’m always fascinated by real life rube goldberg machines. If you don’t know what these are, it’s basically trying to make the most complex thing as possible in order to do a simple task. There are even large college competitions for this.

Here is one for a commercial:

And one of my all time favorites, using only parts for a european spec honda accord (and this is real, and like the one above took insane amount of hours to make, including many many takes).

On a side note, I really wish we would get a TSX (which is basically the European Honda Accord) in station wagon form, or really any cars in decent looking wagon form.

Pre-show included a Vertical Insertion by the US Coast Guard (below), skydivers, and various planes.

No. 99 Michael Goulian gets a penalty by flying too high out of the chicane.

The eventually winner Paul Bonhomme setting a blistering pace.

Rebekah and I decided to take a short mini vacation a few weeks ago, and planned a trip to Venice. Unfortunately the day we were supposed to leave American Airlines graciously cancelled a lot of flights, causing all the flights to fill up. Somehow we managed to still get out, although not to Venice, but instead to London.

We ended up getting business class there and on the way back. Having flown with 61 inches of leg room, I don’t know if I can ever go back. Enough bragging, on to the photos.

Wardour Castle, this was way off on single track roads — made getting to it kind of crazy, but probably one of the best stops, mostly because the journey is half the fun:

About to get rained on, weather in London changes very fast. This was near the finish line of the London Marathon, just in front of Buckingham Palace.
