Where There’s Smoke

March 10th, 2008

There’s a lot of candles. My parents stopped by San Diego for a few days, and since Mom’s birthday was recent, we (by we I mean Rebekah, you don’t want to eat my cake) baked her a cake.

It was supposed to be a surprise, but the glow that starts coming from the kitchen gives it away a bit early.

It takes a lot of wind to blow out that many candles. I won’t tell you how old she is, but I’m not going to stop you from counting how many candles there are.
Out of Breath

Happy belated birthday Mom, and thanks to both of them for stopping by, it was great to have you guys (even if you choose Hawaii over us for your true vacation ;) ).

Another Pair

February 23rd, 2008

As some of you probably remember I have a minor obsession with shoes.

Today I added another pair to the stable. A pair of New Balance Track Flats (technically they are spikes, but the spikes are removable). They were cheap, and my current obsession is with low to no support shoes (Nike Free’s, Vibram Five Fingers, track flats, etc). Not sure when they’ll get put into the rotation, but I’m hoping I get to get a track night into my rotation to actually use the spikes. The color is also so 80’s it’s cool again.

Balboa Blooms

February 16th, 2008

Today was once again a beautiful winter day in San Diego. Since the weather was peaking over 70 again, we decided to walk down to the incredible Balboa Park just a few blocks away from our apartment.

I had been noticing the trees in bloom as I run at night, they look much better in the day time :). I don’t know what kind of trees these are, but it’s almost like San Diego’s own cherry blossoms.
Balboa Park in Bloom

One of California’s largest tree’s also has it’s home in Balboa Park.

This Moreton Bay Fig tree is located in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Planted in 1914, it now has a girth of 42 feet, a height of 80 feet and a canopy of 145 feet. Park near the Fleet Science Museum and walk north.

It’s stunningly huge.

These are both stitches, however they were done in different programs, hence the black/white background difference.

Tutti Frutti

This just opened up across the street. 8 different types of yogurt, and about 50 different toppings. Delicious.

Sunny and 75

February 9th, 2008

No I’m not talking about the grey hairs in Florida. After a few weeks of “bad” weather, we got a beautiful day today.

Some Palm Trees.
