Review: Marware Sensor+

May 1st, 2007

This product is for the Nike+ Sport Kit for the iPod Nano, for those people who do not own and/or do not want to purchase Nike+ shoes. This will allow you to use your Nike+ Sport Kit with any pair of shoes.

A few weeks ago I posted a few things complaining about how my Nike+ setup wasn't tracking miles very well, the SwitchEasy RunAway I previously had purchased was letting me down. It had started off strong, however the hinge seemed to get loose, and it seemed to bounce around a lot on the shoe reducing it's accuracy and usefulness of the entire setup.

I decided to try out another product, the Marware Sensor+. It's basically the same concept, although it's a soft pleather like case that wraps around the Nike+ sensor, under your shoelaces and then velcros back to itself. Since it is soft case you can hook it on tighter without it pushing into your foot (an annoying easy with the SwitchEasy RunAway) and it will record miles more accurately.

I've used it for nearly two weeks so far and it seems pretty simple and works very well, although I did say this with the other one also, so only time will tell.

$4.39 + shipping at Amazon.com. (I purchased mine on eBay for ~$12 total).

For us Luddites among us, were you going to provide an explanation of this queer device? An automatic shoelace tightener? This left foot has a ying and the right foot has a yang, working as a karmic balance enhancer? Is it really another mileage counter or have you opted for completely different technology?

I guess I did leave that completely off.

Basically there is a kit for your iPod Nano called the Nike Sport Kit, which has a sensor that goes into your special Nike+ shoes. I don’t want to buy special shoes, so a bunch of companies have made products you can use on any shoes to carry the sensor.

So that’s what powers the chart on the right (of which I am falling way behind…blog about that coming).

By the way…after the marathon, plan on taking a day or two off. This morning was the first morning I rolled out of bed without groaning. Stairs are still daunting.

  5. Eric comments:

Yeah, that’s what I figured, the half marathon was brutal enough with those stupid hills.

I haven’t run for 3-4 days, and I haven’t returned back to full after the half marathon, so we’ll see if I even attempt the full, I don’t want to kill myself.

Don’t give in! You are closer to being able to finish the full now than you ever were before, even if you feel like it might not be a good idea…you can do it.

So can I have your other ‘inverior’ devices?
